Food As Medicine: Support Your Body. Enhance Your Health. Feel Better
By Joanna Garritono
Nurture Healing was established by Joanna Garritano, MD as a response to the rising epidemic of chronic health problems. Despite some of medicine’s finest contributions to humankind, we are currently experiencing a sharp increase in the number of people with complex chronic health issues. In fact, nearly one out of every two adults in the United States, (that’s over 117 million Americans), face a chronic health challenge—conditions such as diabetes, autoimmune disease, allergies, asthma, digestive problems, depression, chronic headaches, chronic pain, hypertension, heart disease, and cancer to name a few. Today, over 80% of health care visits are people with chronic health conditions. For many of these patients the conventional medical approach is unable to provide a cure for the condition. Instead many treatments and medications are designed to reduce symptoms without alleviating the disease and without addressing the root problems that give rise to these illnesses in the first place
